A Powerful Earthquake in South - East Region in Afghanistan

A devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan late on the night of August 31, 2025, causing widespread destruction across the provinces of Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, and Nuristan. Entire villages were flattened, particularly in mountainous districts like Nurgal, Chawkay, Dara-e-Nur, and Alingar, where fragile mud-and-stone homes collapsed under the tremors. The death toll has surpassed 800, with over 2,000 people injured and thousands more displaced. Landslides and blocked roads have severely hampered rescue efforts, leaving many remote communities accessible only by foot. Emergency teams have been deployed, but the lack of medical supplies, female health workers, and winterized shelter has compounded the crisis. This tragedy underscores the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters and the urgent need for coordinated humanitarian support to prevent further suffering. With consideration of CAHPO own capacity, we spare no efforts to provide emergency assistances to the effected population accordingly.
